Tourism

The Pays Graylois presents a varied tourist offer, but is marginalized within the context of Franche-Comté. River tourism attracts the largest clientele and financial benefits.

Four types of tourism are on offer :

  • River tourism : the port of Gray and its large landing stages, and the presence of a boat hirer, are the strengths of this offer. In addition, there is the port of Savoyeux and a number of stopping-off points and landing stages along the Saône. The Port of Savoyeux, upstream, offers 50 moorings with a river centre and a boat repair shop.

  • The Pays Graylois has a rich heritage of the highest order : the town of Gray, which contains a large number of high-quality buildings, the 6 "Small Character Villages in the Comtois" (Bucey-les-Gy, Gy, Marnay, Pesmes, Ray-sur-Saône, Champlitte) and many châteaux.

  • Diffuse by definition, rural tourism is mainly based on walking and riding (Regional long-distance paths, horse-riding) and fishing.

  • Water-sports tourism (swimming, canoeing) is more marginal and concentrated along the Saône and the Ognon, and on Marnay lake.

There is little accommodation in quantity terms, with campsites representing most of an offer that is concentrated on the Ognon Valley and the Gray region. There is considerable room for improvement in terms of quality.

There is relatively little promotion, and this is not organised on a regional scale. There are no local structures responsible for marketing.

In cultural terms, the attraction of the neighbouring towns is very high, as the region is lacking in cultural facilities and structured leisure activities.
